this summer i will

waiting for the crispies

it was yum.

i have been meaning to make a list like this ever since i saw one of shari's lists ages ago.  (why, oh why, has it taken me so long to actually do it!?)  here goes.

this summer i will:

* pickle something (have you seen what leya's been up to?)

* build and light a campfire

* pick-my-own peaches

* make cobblers and crisps and even a buckle out of the season's fresh fruits and berries (and eat them for breakfast)

* tie dye something

* take after-dinner walks as a family

* eat breakfast on the porch

* jump off the diving board

* go camping

* catch fireflies

* make tea from the lemon verbena and the mint growing on our porch

* step outside first thing each morning and last thing each night

i will also open the windows and brew iced tea and not worry about bedtime and rent a kayak and go to the pool all by myself while the kids are in camp and paint sunflowers and keep the freezer stocked with lemonade ice pops and make a bracelet.

and i will inhale this season, deep and long.  i will devour this summer like it was a peach-plum crisp.  because the days are already getting shorter, and i want to live it all before i blink and there's a chill in the air again.

oh summer, you are the season of unfolding.  the season of ripening.  the season of bounty.  and i love you so.

This was such a lovely and inspiring post! There was a moment today where I was so, so hot that I was over it but then I read your list and you are so right! These are all the things I really love so much about summer, and what make me wish that it will just keep lasting forever. It's good to remember this kind of stuff in the evening when its cooler, and get excited for the days to come.

Thank you!

your list is ideal! i'm definitely on board with the pickling, and the bracelets brought back fond memories.

such a nice list! i love crips but i'm the only one who does in this family (what's wrong with them anyway?!). i may have to scurry off to make my own crisp and my own list...

Great planning for your summer days...we do the family-after-dinner-walks and they are very special in the summer. Yesterday, we added a second walk a little before midnight and it was serene and gorgeous-the air was so fresh! I hope you really enjoy all on your list!

I love this list. So much of this hits very close to (my) home. It makes me happy to think someone feels the way I do about some things. Thanks, and enjoy!

Love this list - and I've been making cobblers like crazy. And stepping outside is such a gift. Happy summer!

Great list. I will join you on several of those things - eating breakfast on the porch. Stepping outside first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Lovely.
