ice and bread

ice.

we finally had some winter weather here this week.  an inch or more of ice covered everything by wednesday afternoon - beautiful to look at, glorious fun to slide on, and frightening when it comes to driving and the wind.

more bread.

of course, winter weather means baking - ok, all weather means baking in my house - and i've been busy.  i made three loaves of bread this week (the light whole wheat from this book, a loaf of this yummy bread served with lentil soup for dinner last night, and one beautiful baguette - also from this book - served with dinner tonight).  three loaves of bread, one batch of banana muffins, and a batch of chocolate chip cookies.  i've been keeping busy and warm.  hope you're doing the same.

I wanted to bake in this weather and we had no butter. It was a big problem.

YAY!!! It's been chilly here this week too (I mean the Texas version of chilly, you understand), and my kids have been huddled up next to the oven while the bread bakes.I have a feeling they are going to tell their grandkids that someday... how back in the olden days it was so cold that they had to stand by the oven just to keep from being frostbitten. And they had to walk to school. Up hill. Both ways. In 10 feet of snow :-)Happy baking, mama!

Baking cookies! I love to hear that. Maybe we should do that today too. We are trying to take it easy after James slipped on the ice last night and we spent all evening in the ER (lots of other kiddos injured as well). So be careful out there! He had a split lip and ended up with no stitches, they just glued it. Yay.

ice is scary to drive on but it does make for a beautiful landscape. love that you are baking so much. hopefully, i'll try my hand at something more than butter cookies this weekend. xox
