Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at 05:32AM i don't think i'll go on numbering my posts forever (though i love how shari and amisha do that). but today, i'm lacking words.
so i'm sharing a few recent paintings.
i've been working on a series of window paintings.
i'll tell you about that another day when there are no contractors in my house putting up new wallboard to cover the walls that are so damaged from trying to remove improperly hung wallpaper that my simple living room painting job has turned into a large and dusty project.
but it's all good. it's happening. and the contractor is friendly and helpful and here. and by next week, i'll have a beautifully painted living room.
later, neighbors. (oh, and i'm pretty sure i'm going to have to go on about the neighborhood some more another day. i've been thinking about a map.)

Hope we get to see peeks of the new living room! (we're in the midst of a dusty master closet project now.)
Any good wallpapers coming off your walls?Oooh, a map! I'd love to see how you do that!
I'm interested in how a map might be laid out. When I moved before Christmas, my neighbor, across the street from my physical house, made advent calendars that were maps of our neighborhood, and it was such a lovely housewarming gift, to see some of the houses that she included, how the neighborhood was knit together, some of the places that are important to the area.
the paintings are so nice, emily. i especially like the first one and the last one...they just draw me in.
as for maps, i love your idea. thinking of it makes me remember a map-making exercise from a geography class i took ages ago. the map was based on experiences and perceptions of different people within a community. for the children, the park and the school were the biggest and most prominent features; for the elderly it was the senior center and the clinic; for the college hipsters it was the cafes and bars as well as the university. and then for individuals, the location of friends and family were stand outs. it was an interesting and informative way to look at the same neighborhood through the eyes of its diverse inhabitants.
may the living room renovation be quick! can't wait to see what color you choose for the walls.
