4th of january

four whole days into 2008 and no post. disgraceful. but i've been quiet rather than bore you with what i've been up to. visits to the bank. making doctor appointments. holding to speak to someone to make doctor appointments. cleaning out the car. it's been a blast, let me tell you.

except that it has been good. really, really good.

List

i tried not to make any new year's resolutions this year. i've got that list (which needs quite a bit of tweaking) to finish up in the next three months, and i figured that was enough. but i made a few little ones in spite of myself. and the first. the biggest. the most important is: "do. don't put off." so i've got this really long list of things that i need (i mean really, really need) to do. like making doctor appointments and going to the bank.

and the only thing i like more than making a list is crossing things off of a list that i've made. really good.

so i've been plowing through, and i've made a lot of progress. i think i'll be there in another few days. which is a good thing, because i've got a lot to share here. there are ideas swirling around in my brain waiting to be created. there are thoughts swirling around in there, too, waiting to be typed. and there is my camera, waiting to be drafted into good use. there is so much.

but first, i have to do all of these things that need doing. do, don't put off. really, i'm hoping that by doing, doing, doing, i'll make space in my brain, in my life, for all of those swirling thoughts and ideas to settle down and come together. i'm hoping.

(and, in case you were wondering, the other two are: "go to bed by 10pm" and "don't eat refined sugar or white flour, much" we'll see.)

Do do do. Putting off is so easy, but really accomplishes nothing good. Although I do it way too often, put off. Good for you for getting that stuff done. I like your last birthday's list.

"Don't eat refined sugar or flour, much" ha! I should get that one too. I really ought to post about mine because it's really funny. I mean, serious to me, but funny to everyone I've told so far. That's what I'll email you about. xo

And I love your photo, again.

Your posts are always so inspiring, with beautiful pictures and I love hearing about your traditions the best. Not religious necessarily but daily or seasonal rituals.

Now I can't wait for your birthday to see how many of your list items you accomplished (that was a big list for one year!) and to see what your list is for the next year.

You still have a few months to cross off more of your list. Wondering how you're coming along with it so far.

first of all the picture is beautiful and inspiring to me...because I LOVE lists. It's what I live for--making lists and crossing things off of them. I am even embarrassingly guilty of putting things like "eat breakfast" and "get dressed" on my lists just so I can cross them off.Is that a moleskine? the journal or the diary/planner? I went to BN to get myself the planner today and they are sold out. I'm trying to decide if it is worth the shipping to get one online or if I should just stick with the boring planner I bought in October, before I was enlightened in the ways of the moleskine planner....

thanks, emily for the list inspiration. on my mental list is the creation of the actual list. your list makes list making look fun, and creative too.

I'm not sure I could keep to a list for that long, let alone not loose it. I may steal your do don't put off and tape it to the bathroom mirror.

I just came in from outside chores and when I got in David had already crossed off my tasks on the today's list. Argh! I had to sit down and blog read for a few minutes as a balm.

Asleep by 10 up by 6 - that's on my list too. Ahem.

The "go to bed by 10 o'clock" part? No sweat. The making lists and doing? Easy speasy. The no refined sugar and white flour - torture! Ok, so that which doesn't kill us makes us stronger, but still... Ay Carumba!

I am a serious list maker. I have to be. I am so flaky sometimes, so much stuff working around in my head, then with three girls, I somehow take responsibility for all of their stuff, too. My head is full up. So full, that I can hardly remember what movie I've just seen while my girls can quote verbatim, and sing the songs from top to bottom. Ahhh. Maybe the refined sugar and white flour ARE making everything sticky...

oh lists. i love lists. and new pens to make lists, and cross things off. i just love that you keep it all in one journal. and use highlighters.more sleep would be good for me too, but then i will have trouble crossing things off. i really need to put on my list: "find more time".

I've been lurking for awhile and have to de-lurk and comment - I too love lists, dislike resolutions, and have committed to being off sugar for a long season, possibly the whole year. Already it is a challenge, but each day is like crossing an important item off the list - my mental and physical health!Good luck with it - and so excited to read more about the cookbook collaborative!Cheers!
